Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen is mourning the loss of her beloved sheepdog – and Our Yorkshire Farm co-star – Kate.
She described Kate as a “loyal workmate, companion, colleague and friend” in a Twitter tribute.
Owen went to get Kate from her kennel on Saturday morning, only to find the 14-year-old German Shepherd had died in her sleep.
She shared a series of photos of herself with her pet, including selfies of both of them during their walks in the country.
Less than an hour before she tweeted the sad news, Owen had posted a video of the morning sun on the hills, captioning the post, “Here’s the morning that makes you feel on top of the world!”
A follow-up post said: “Then there’s the other kind of grief. Where to go to get your loyal workmate, companion, colleague and friend out of their kennel. Only to find that she died in her sleep. Kate… that’s enough.”
The news comes after it was revealed that Owen will not be appearing in a new spin-off show based on the hit series after splitting from her husband.
Since the series first aired in 2018, millions of viewers have watched as Clive Owen and his wife Amanda raise their nine children.
But the new show, Beyond The Yorkshire Farm: Reuben & Clive, will only feature Clive and his eldest son, Reuben. It will follow them as they travel beyond their remote farm in the Yorkshire Dales to start a new digging company together.
It comes after Clive and Amanda announced their split this summer after 21 years of marriage.
They issued a joint statement in June, saying they had “made the difficult decision to separate.”
The statement continued, “It hasn’t been easy, but we both believe it’s the right choice for our family’s future.
“Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work the farm together and are co-parents, with our top priority being the happiness and well-being of our children.”
In an interview with The Telegraph in October, Owen said it had been difficult hiding their split from fans and that it was a relief to finally reveal the truth.
“You know, if you have a pressure cooker, take the lid off and let the air out?” said Owen.
The couple got back together for the graduation of their eldest daughter Raven last month and shared photos with the 21-year-old at York St. John University.
Owen wrote on Instagram: “A brilliant week for Raven. What an incredible achievement.
“So proud to see her graduate from the glorious @york_minster_official @yorkstjohn. No rain could dampen our spirits.”
