Phillies sign Trea Turner in massive deal as NL East keeps moving free agent market: report

Reigning National League champions the Philadelphia Phillies made a splash on Monday when they reportedly signed All-Star shortstop Trea Turner to a massive long-term deal, according to ESPN.

After failing in the World Series against the Houston Astros, the Phillies were quick to realize what they could be missing, and shortstop was a position they felt they could improve on.

Bryson Stott was one of their top picks and played well during the Phillies’ run last season. But with Turner’s addition, the Phillies likely won’t mind moving him to second base so Turner can play his desired position.

For his career, Turner is a .302 hitter with a .355 base percentage. With players like Schwarber, Harper and others able to swing for the fences, Turner’s presence up front could make those homers worse for opponents with him on base.
