5 Questions We Have After Episode 8 of The Last of Us

In its eighth episode, HBO The last of us adapts one of the darkest chapters of the 2013 video game that inspired it. Record an indefinite time after the events of the seventh part of the series, The last of us Episode 8, titled When we are in needfollows Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as she struggles to survive a series of interactions with a priest-like lunatic named David (Scott Shepherd).

David is just like the original last of us, the predatory leader of a group of post-apocalyptic cannibals. Ellie’s scenes with him consistently rank among the most unnerving and psychologically disturbing The last of us has delivered so far. His right-hand man, James, is also played by Troy Baker, the actor who portrayed Joel in the original last of us games.

How could he have explained what had been done to Alec’s body? Probably David hadn’t planned that far in advance. Based on how confident he seems in his leadership position, he probably shouldn’t have put too much thought into explaining his actions away.

Since when are David and his followers cannibals?

In The last of us In episode 8, David tells Ellie that his group resorted to cannibalism because the winter season was so difficult for them. However, it has never been revealed how long he, James, and their chosen confidants have been secretly feeding their fellow survivors human flesh. At first it seems like Alec’s body was the first they butchered.

However, that notion is dispelled later in the episode when Joel wanders into one of the group’s buildings and discovers several dismembered human corpses hanging from hooks like chunks of meat. That one shot alone suggests that David and his inner circle had turned to cannibalism long before Ellie and Joel even entered the picture.

How long was Joel injured?

If The last of us Episode 8 begins, Joel’s stab wound has been successfully stitched up by Ellie. However, not only is his wound infected, but his and Ellie’s food supplies have also been destroyed. These two details suggest that The last of us Episode 8 begins with Ellie and Joel a few days, if not a few weeks, after viewers last saw them.

That question will likely never be answered, but it’s interesting to ask if Joel’s journey through Silver Lake is the first time he’s actually encountered cannibals given how much he’s seen and done The last of us‘post-apocalyptic world.

Will Ellie be able to recover in the future?

Ellie manages to kill both David and James alone in the end The last of us Episode 8, but not before she faces the full, twisted threat that David poses to her. So when she stumbles out of Silver Lake’s burning steakhouse at the end of the episode, she looks understandably traumatized by everything she’s experienced. While she quickly hugs Joel as she realizes he’s standing in front of her, it’s clear that whatever was left of Ellie’s innocence has been taken from her by the events of The last of us episode 8

Her and Joel’s relationship appears to be as strong as ever, but it’s unclear at this time if Ellie will still be the same feisty survivor fans have come to know and love when they see her again.
